● The MoROLL ...

... is my most recent design challenge. It placed in the Top 20 of the "International Design Award 2009" (click here to see page 37 of the online catalog), and was chosen to represent my school at "Habitare 2010," Finland's International Furniture and Design Fair. It went from concept to reality in 3 months! The goal was to not only have a 1:1 model, but a fully functioning prototype which allows to experience The MoROLL. It offers safety and security, an intimate space which encourages communication. But see for yourself!

The MoROLL ...
... rocks and rolls. It forms to its multiple functions.

The MoROLL ...
... spiraling on in public spaces, like airports.

Chilling out in ...
... The MoROLL

The gentleman watching over my shoulder is Paavo Honkanen, a local fiberglass legend. Without him, this would not have been possible!

The MoROLL, coming alive!

Before ...

... and after!

Handmade from fiber glass, in one piece.

No frame, no hardware.

The seat cushions are foam, upholstered with black leather.

The MoROLL drew a lot of attention!

Communication, ...

... and relaxation.

Kids understood the safe space immediately. They were crazy about it!

It was a show stopper!

Attraction, ...

... fascination, ...

... warmth.

"Good design", says Raimo Moilanen, director of North Karelian University of Applied Science.

"Artistic, fresh design", Finland's top designer Yrjö Kukkapuro exclaimed, after sitting with me in The MoROLL. "Very good idea", cheered Tarja Halonen, President of Finland, during a surprise visit at our booth at Habitare 2010.
